Second day in Paris
It is your second day in a foreign city and you are basically and hour and a half walk away from the place which you are staying. Now it is time for you to leave. You would probably take transportation or even a map.
Not I! I had the bright idea to walk all the way home From my friend Nick's Luscious Apartment (yes it deserved capital letters) in the 8th Arrondisement to where I was staying in the fifth.
And the story begins like this: I decide that I will walk home from the l'arc de triomphe to basically the Luxembourg gardens. I begin to walk towards the Eiffel tower for it is easily spotted in the darkness of the city because it is a beacon for those who wish to come visit its awe and splendor. (it attracts people like flies with its light; like a bug lamp attracts flies (that analogy was better before my mind wandered)). I approached the tower took in the sight and glares (the reason for glares is because I am the most american looking person in the world and to be walking down the sidewalks during the night is quite frightening for Parisians). Well earlier in the day I took a touristy boat ride on the seine. I know not my style. So, I figured well I get to the Eiffel tower which on the seine I can navigate home.
This turned out to be a most fatal mistake. For one particular reason; the Eiffel tower has four identical sides which gives me no sense of direction. I could tell if i was north or south of where i was staying if it had non identical sides. Lets be real though at the time I had no clue where I was really staying it wouldn't have helped anyway. SO I decided to just wing it, for, asking how to get home is asking for trouble. (not really when you're mean and have a lovely stature of 6feet tall and 257 pounds. Oh yea my dark complexion helps.) SO i wandered and took pictures. So i present you with Andrew Lost in Paris----------------------------------------> This was result of me walking the wrong way down the seine river. One i figured this out I decided to cut through the city because it'd be faster boy was I wrong.
It really was horrible it toook me three hours to walk what shoulda took one. I eventually had sense to go to the Eiffel tower and go the opposite way than I took the first time. This was after some time struggling in the city that I barely know, which does not have grid streets. Fail, need I say more? I have no clue how I got home but I did. I will admit, I caught a lot of slack for always getting lost the first week here. But how it was to my advantage I know the city more well than many of the other students here (this has not been proven, it is a mere assumption). I mean I have never missed a class here or even been late.
My Next ramblings will be about my living situation in France which is quite interesting
Peace Out Girls Scouts
Au revoir
